Really powerful piece and heartbreaking to read. I was lucky to have parents who believed in justice even if they did hold some traditional views. But some of my relatives exhibit the mocking and dismissive behavior you speak of. It baffles me that people can have such a casual attitude toward politics, as though these court decisions and laws DON’T affect our lives. They do, and the lies spread by pundits do as well. I’m sorry for your struggles and wish you well in your recovery.
