I’ve had relatively short hair my entire life. It’s never grown longer than my shoulders because it’s very fine and thin, and breaks easily. I often felt less feminine compared to my peers who had long, gorgeous hair.

Finally, I chopped it all off. While a lot of people loved the pixie cut, a lot of men didn’t. Half the messages I received on OKCupid were negative comments about my hair. I worked retail and was frequently asked if I was a lesbian.

My hair is now a little longer, but I wear wigs a lot (as you can see in my profile pic). I have massive hair insecurities, so this article resonated with me. It is indeed interesting how times have changed. Men used to favor long hair on themselves (and high heels, for that matter). And as someone else in the responses pointed out, once women get older, they’re expected to go short.

I hope that we eventually get to a place where anyone can simply dress and style themselves the way they want without others reducing them to stereotypes.
