I personally loathe “getting into the weeds.” It’s especially bad because it’s typically used by people who are alarmed that the client/stakeholder is taking a closer look than they would like at whatever the “weedy” thing is. Just be honest and say, “I’m scared shitless because John is really reading my report top to bottom and asking questions I won’t be able to answer because I bullshitted my way through the whole thing!”
