I had the same experience. I am so ashamed of some of the things I said and did. I myself vacillate between stages of “girliness,” and I shouldn’t begrudge other women for the stage they’re in. Now, I look at people’s actions, rather than their likes and tastes, and respond to them based on those, rather than their conformity to gender stereotypes. For that same reason, I am concerned about toxic masculinity which demands that men conform to macho stereotypes or else they’re not “real men.” There is a connection between internalized misogyny and toxic masculinity for sure!
