Chasing (Cars)

We’ll do it all
Everything
On our own

I felt like you were all I needed, all I ever wanted. Like we were soulmates.

We don’t need
Anything
Or anyone

I cut so many people off because you said all I needed was you. And I believed you.

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

I’m laying here now, unable to move. Tears soak my cheeks. I did indeed forget the world that loved me, and I’m left here with you.

I don’t quite know
How to say
How I feel

You said that I was a goddess, that you needed me, that I was extraordinary. Then you say I’m a whore, that you don’t need me, that I’m nothing.

Those three words
Are said too much
They’re not enough

All I wanted to be able to say was, “I love you.” I was met with your “I hate you.”

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we’re told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that’s bursting into life

You told me you wanted me to grow my hair out, plant in your garden, be a hippie with you. Yet you cut my tree at the quick.

Let’s waste time
Chasing cars
Around our heads
