Brilliant piece that succinctly knocks down several common counterarguments. I would add to the point about women perpetuating domestic violence that while rates of perpetration may be similar among men and women, those incidents occur in what’s called “situational couple violence,” i.e. both parties hurt each other, as opposed to the less common but far more damaging “intimate terrorism,” in which one party exerts control over the other. In both types of domestic violence/intimate partner abuse, patriarchal ideas influence abusive behaviors. For example, female abusers tend to use emasculating tactics on their victims, further decreasing the likelihood of a male victim to report. Patriarchy indeed hurts everyone, and feminists are anti-patriarchy, not anti-men. Great piece, Elle!
